Anthony is an amazing photographer and writer. The article below is just a small taste of his talents (the two upper photos are his, not the two bottom).

ramble US Economy

The U.S. equity market resumed its decline on Wednesday, July 2, after taking a brief pause on the first day of the third quarter. In our view, weaker-than-expected employment data, rising oil prices and additional negative commentary on automakers pressured the market.

This is kinda like in office space when Peter Gibbons says, So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, … every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it, and the psychologist says, damn that’s messed up…

Back and forth and back and forth. Arrived back in NM Sunday night until Thursday! Then I whoosh back up to Keystone and Ariana races on Friday mid-morning. Starting in a parade is pretty fun, especially since I’m taking photos and not racing :)

A few of my favorites:

Ahhhhh….the views at Keystone

Ari and Paula riding in Los Alamos

The commute from camping to the demo area included this view in Crested Butte

I went to Los Alamos and all I got was a root canal…

Yup, I didn’t feel like finding a new dentist right away in Golden, so while on my working trip, I schedule an emergency trip to my dentist, and now two days later, I just received my root canal. Yuck, I forgot how intrusive these things are, how far they have to go to get the nerves. My tooth problem started when my dentist filled a cavity that was on the back of tooth #10 (lateral incisor). He had to burn away some of the gum to get the cavity out and then he filled it. No problems, until about 8 months ago when I took a bite of a burnt bagel and a piece of the bagel got wedged in the back of that tooth. I was in extreme pain, so I went in the dentist knowing it should be a root canal, but he thought he could clean it out instead. So about 3 months ago, I noticed some discomfort and it took me this long to go in. I wasn’t in pain because the nerves had died already, but the tooth had an infection.

Yucko…so now I’m on the road to recovery but he was able to save the exterior of my tooth!

Wow, I’m just popping all over the southwest! It is fun, and I wouldn’t have it any other way :)

I get to work and play, and Ariana gets to visit with her friends…what could be better? I even had a good time (tues-fri) visiting Crested Butte with Anthony. Ariana loves CB! It has great camping, a neato town (woohoo, we found free footsball)!, and the most incredible riding anywhere.

So, we got into Los Alamos Friday and we had a party to go to Saturday night, then a date with the ski hill on Sunday I didn’t think I would have time to play, but I worked 1/2 day after riding. I took a digger, I must post some pix tomorrow…(wah, first crash on new bike). It is surprisingly loose at the ski hill.

happy father’s day!

Okay, I am a day late, but hopefully all the father’s had a good one yesterday! Ariana’s dad calls me every year to wish me a happy father’s day. Kinda quirky, but thinking I’ve been there for Ari since day 1, well I guess it would make sense.

So, I had a girl ride planned at 12 noon, which gave me ample time to get some chores done around the house. Kind of a few “man” chores :) Such as, I installed a pegboard for my cycling tools and rearranged the basement. I have this huge unfinshed basement, which replaces my 1 car garage I use to have. I then cut a piece of plywood to fix one of my chairs (the seat broke through at my house warming, a good house warming, something always gets broken and some sort of beverage is spilled). Also, after the ride, I washed my element to get ready for a road trip!

Whew..

I had a great girl ride!!

busy day

Ari and I were outta of the house at 5 am this morning to do a race in Glenwood Springs. We arrived early and I was able to close my eyes for a few minutes before she had to warm up. We arrived to the start line 15 minutes early, and I was asked if I was going to race with the kids. Uhhmm… Sure, I said. It was great watching these girls go off! Me and Ryan (the Black Sheep head coach) lead out these girls through 1 1/2 mile neutral start.

Looking back at the junior women racers, the older ones were in the back of the pack.

A view from the race course. The weather was absolutely perfect!

Ari as she passed me. A took a few photos then tried to sprint ahead, but she was surprisingly fast! I didn’t get her coming through the finish!

It is great how she gets along with the other girls and fits right in.

I was dog-sitting Grendel and he was making friends fast. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve called him Porter!

Afterwards, we hit Qdoba for some burritos then went swimming in the hot springs! I have never been there, and I kinda know why: it isn’t cheap!

Ari also got a pass to do the water slides!

After a soak, I headed over to Keystone where I picked up my mum’s broken bike. While we were there, I couldn’t help but run the dogs in the nearby pond.

That Grendel! How does he run when his paws don’t touch the ground? See Ginger in mid-shake…

A little dip in Keystone!

hardest 1 minute 40 seconds…ever

Last night was the first Black Sheep practice I attended on the road bike. This is taken place at Corporate Circle (right where Yeti and my old employer, AST Sport Science is located). Basically, it is a circular paved area in an industrial sector, with a downhill, and an uphill. There are some scary deep manholes covers, but for the most part, it is safe.

So, for a warm up, we do a few laps, I chat with some of the girls, and then everyone lines up and get ready for a fastest lap, mini race. I’m like alright, I can do this. They do this to judge where the riders are and get them to improve, kind of like a crit, but a timed trial because it is them against the clock.

So, they say go, and I thought I would be content just riding with the girls, however, I see the man coaches take off, and I join them. Silly me…I immediately start drafting up the hill, and I realize I’m pushing it hard. It levels off at the top, then a nice descend to the finish. One of the younger racers pull off from the coach, so I then grab his wheel to draft and we finish together. Wow, that was the hardest effort I have put in my bike in a LONG, long time…I felt like a smoker as I was gasping for air, and I notice my legs were mush. The guy in front got a 1 min 39 second time, and I roll in behind him. Wow, the coaches were impressed with my effort, but it took me at least an hour to cool down. I wanted to throw up, badly… It was nice to be second place in a pack of 40 :)

It has been a whirlwind of activity, but we arrived in Golden late Friday night, and now Tuesday, I almost have a house put together. I also arrived without incident (barely). A 24 foot truck required additional navigation and I only:

  1. backed into my old house (don’t worry, only a bit of a gutter was damaged)
  2. almost hit one of those steel poles by a gas pump

I had two wonderful groups of people helping me jam all my stuff in the truck, Mat, Tarik, and Julien. Then on day 2, it was Jonathan, Ann, and Joe. That was it to orchestrate the art of loading! On the flip side, there was only myself, Anthony, his friend Ben (who is a recent transplant too), and Ariana. We got all the stuff out in record time (thank-you!!!). Beer was shared by all, then I grilled up some buffalo burgers and we all enjoyed the patio outside. The first two evenings in Golden were amazing, not too hot, not too cool, just right! Then mother nature whipped up a batch of cold rainy weather, which was perfect for me to do stuff like get a new drivers license and tags. Oh yeh, unpack all those boxes!! (thank-you for being a good sport, ari!

I had no idea I had so much stuff! I still can’t believe I have so much stuff, as I don’t want to unload it all. I have a feeling I’m going to be dropping bunches of stuff off at goodwill in the near future.

Although it sounds like a lot of work (it is), I have already enjoyed a few mountain bike rides, thanks to Anthony! One in Evergreen, and one up Chimney Gulch (then down Apex).

whew…back to work tomorrow!!! I’m so glad to be here, it truly a superb birthday present!! :)

Here was my office this morning. I was configuring the modem and testing the wireless abilities. I also splurged and got a faster internet connection!

I haven’t taken many photos, so here are a blast from the past

Ariana warming up before riding in Rabbit Valley (CO-UT)

An interview with Joe, Anthony, and a dude sipping on PBR

…is it the weekend yet, so I can play in CO?? :)

exhaustion

moving, packing, sleep deprivation, stress, work, money, all attributes of my exhaustion.

In 24 hours I should be in Golden, Colorado ready to start my new chapter back in my old stomping grounds. It was a hell of a road, but the fun is almost ready to start.

I had two wonderful helpers today, Mat and Tarik. Mat is getting ready to move to Australia to work for the local government and he admitted to being good at packing! We got more than 1/2 the 24′ truck loaded, and I’m almost ready to pack the rest.

soon, so very soon…
